Book 1 of the series

A sports story with a training manual inside it.

Maya Steele just made a basketball team that doesn't want her. Her coach doesn't train the way other coaches do. He talks about the lines of tension running through the body, and how the hips remember what the mind forgets. Thirteen weeks. One team. A body literacy no one taught them, until now.

The Fuel Talk

A team nutrition night. One folding-chair evening.

When Coach Brennan calls a mandatory nutrition night for the Bayshore Barracudas, he expects questions about protein shakes and pre-game meals. What he doesn't expect is how many of his own confident answers don't hold up once the room starts pushing back. Parents, kids, and a whiteboard covered in half-erased diagrams work through what's actually known, what's still uncertain, and what's just something somebody said.

  • Sorting what's known from what's assumed
  • A hand-based portion system that scales
  • Game-day and tournament fueling
  • A straight answer on supplements
Why body literacy

Most content aimed at young athletes tells them what to do. This shows them why.

Every chapter ends with a toolkit page: one diagram of a real system in the body, one physical exploration the reader can try standing where they are, and one plain-language explanation of what it means on the court. The toolkit isn't extra reading. It's the chapter, translated into the reader's own body.

Lymphatic system no central pump diagram
Chapter 10 toolkit

"The heart pumps blood. Nothing pumps lymph except you moving."

The Lateral Line diagram
Chapter 8 toolkit

"Every step is a one-leg balance. This is the line that holds it."

Superficial Front Line diagram
Chapter 6 toolkit

"Six hours at a desk shortens this line before practice even starts."

Anticipatory counter-rotation diagram
Chapter 3 toolkit

"The counter engages before the force, not in response to it."

How the series is built

One story. Thirteen systems. One chapter at a time.

01 · The story

A season, not a lecture

Maya, Caleb, Jace, Priya and the rest of the Barracudas carry the plot. The body literacy arrives through what happens to them, not through a narrator explaining anatomy at the reader.

02 · The toolkit

Every chapter, one mechanism

A diagram, a thing to try, and one clear sentence connecting it to the game. Coaches and physios recognize the content. Twelve-year-olds can actually use it.

03 · The transfer

Built to move sports

The underlying mechanisms (fascial lines, breath, lymphatic flow, recovery) aren't basketball-specific. Future books in the series carry the same method into other sports.

For schools, clubs & coaches

Put real body literacy in the hands of every athlete on your roster.

Bayshore Barracudas was built for team reading, club libraries, and coach education, not just individual readers. If you work with young athletes, this is a tool, not just a story.

Graham O'Hagan

Graham O'Hagan is a performance coach who works with young athletes on the things most training programs skip: how tension travels through the body, why the hips remember what the mind forgets, and what actually happens to a twelve-year-old's movement after six hours at a school desk.

He wrote the Bayshore Barracudas series after noticing the same gap over and over: kids coached on effort and attitude when the real problem was structural, and nobody had ever explained it to them. Not because it's too complex. Because no one had put it in a form a twelve-year-old would sit still for. So he put it in a story.
